This unit does not have a plug. It will have o be hard wired to 30 amp, volts, single phase breaker. Good morning, yes a 40 amp breaker will be perfect for this unit. Hi; We had a fire and are putting are building back together. I have a new heat pump that has heat strips that draw 90 amps. A new wire has to be run from the panel to the heater. The run is about 75 feet. The electrical contractor is responsible by contract to hook up all wires to the new amp panel he is installing. He wants an additional to run the one wire for the heat pump.

Stupid question, with me living in the midwest. Now does that unit heat and cool? A heat pump in simplified terms is just a reversible air conditioner. Normally an air conditioner works by a refrigerant in liquid form “evaporating” in the aptly named evaporator coil into a gas, absorbing heat in the process. This liquid then goes back to the evap coil and repeats the process. With a heat pump, there is a valve which allows the coils to reverse their function.
The evap becomes the condenser, expelling excess heat and the condenser becomes the evap, absorbing heat. This is mentioned in SandShark’s post above when he was talking about which coil is called what. In heating mode, the heat pump draws it’s heat from the outside air.
