As soon as the ezan started we knew we were starting to leave Europe In the background you can hear the calls from other mosques in the neighbourhood and across the Bosphorus. Recorded with a Zoom H2, using its built-in microphones. At one point you can hear workmen taking down scaffolding as well; not bad for the pinhole monaural mic of my MP3 player! Haein-sa “ocean of reflection” temple is large and long-lived; it is famous for the 80, plus woodblock printing blocks for the Tripitaka Koreana that are kept there. Before long all of them will be available for view online in a nice melding of the modern with the ancient. But to put these sounds in context: I’m employed to record sound for video documentaries and to do sound design for them; the videos are political or video-art. Besides this I produce recordings for the musical groups of these communities. So of course, I’m doing a lot of field recordings in the work intervals

Email For as long as recording equipment has existed, we’ve been pointing it at hippos, shoving it down anthills, and dropping it into the sea—to learn more about animal behavior, document changes in ecosystems, or just freak out at the crazy sounds nature makes. Recent strides in digital-audio technology and the availability of smaller and more sensitive microphones have made it possible to probe further down the food chain, where sound plays just as important a role in organizing the lives of species as it does among the birds, bees, coyotes, and rhinoceri.
They’ve also enabled conventional musicians to tap into the compositional potential of the natural world.

The first of these tunnels is being proposed for Sognefjord, which will connect Oppedal and Lavik. Sognefjord is currently being served by a 20 minute ferry ride between the two villages. The proposed tunnel will be composed of two 4, ft long concrete tubes, one for each direction, that will be braced to each other using trusses and to the bedrock.
The vertical position of the tubes will be controlled by a series of pontoons that will be floated on the surface of the fjord. These pontoons will be spaced apart wide enough for ships to pass through They will hang between 65 to ft below the water’s surface – far below possible contact with ships. Each tube will have room for two lanes – one for travel and one for emergencies and repair work according to the proposals. They will be designed to withstand any tidal movements as well as the effects of ice and cold weather.

I dread to think how many months it’s been since I first had the idea to add a podcast to the blog, but once I decided to actually do it, it all came together pretty quickly. Introducing the first guest But most of all, thanks to Lorelou Desjardins for agreeing to appear on the very first show! Lorelou is one of my favourite expat bloggers in all of Norway, mainly because of her hilarious and occasionally controversial thoughts of Norwegian society and culture. Some of her posts have caught the attention of the Norwegian media, and she’s now a regular columnist in a major newspaper and appears on national TV and radio.
Her popularity has also led to a book deal! Despite writing the book in English, it has been published in Norwegian by a publisher and she has yet to agree a deal for an English language version. Here’s the first episode: In this interview, we dig into Lorelou’s reasons for starting the blog, and look at some of the more popular posts. What Norwegian women really think:

Laugerie Haute Ouest Photo: Don Hitchcock Detail of a map of Les Eyzies and environs, produced by Otto Hauser, zooming in on the Laugerie-Haute site complex, early 20th century. The site is only open to the public by appointment, often only once a week, by purchasing tickets from the Font de Gaume ticket office. I was lucky enough to get on a tour, but sadly no photographs were allowed inside the gate. I find this policy difficult to understand. In the case of Laugerie Basse, photographs are certainly allowed.
Why yes at one site and no at a similar site next door, is beyond my comprehension. There was a very old sign from the s on the wall forbidding photographs. Perhaps because the Laugerie Basse site has been extremely well patronised by hundreds, perhaps thousands, of tourists each day, it was difficult to police a no photographs rule, so it was abandoned.

Understand[ edit ] ‘Follo’ is thought to derive from ‘Foldin’, the old name for the wider reaches of the Oslo Fjord. Follo and Oslo have always had a close relationship with each other. The many discoveries of prehistoric hill forts, burial mounds and rock carvings in the areas cultivated during the Stone and Bronze Ages indicate that the Follo region has always been an attractive place to live in.
Norway’s largest collection of Stone Age dwellings and implements was discovered next to the Bunnefjord. By car it is a 20 minute drive from Oslo south on E6 or E18 motorways, and you are in Follo.

When Arendelle is plunged into an eternal winter by Queen Elsa , Kristoff becomes the travel companion of Princess Anna on her mission to end the curse. Contents [ show ] Background Kristoff was orphaned at a young age and placed in an orphanage thereafter. He was nevertheless too adventurous and free-spirited to be contained in such a facility; he spent a majority of his time sneaking out and exploring the wilderness around him. With a fascination of ice, Kristoff also occupied his time by tagging behind Arendelle ‘s team of ice harvesters to observe their ethics in hopes of garnering their skill and eventually becoming an ice harvester, himself.
The two met during Kristoff’s childhood as an orphan, wherein during which, he found and rescued the reindeer fawn. Kristoff’s care for Sven was so great that he eventually began living by the philosophy that ” reindeer are better than people “, to which Sven would agree. Furthermore, although Sven cannot speak, both he and Kristoff have a mutual understanding of one another. So much that Kristoff has a habit to literally voice Sven’s thoughts in a gruff, goofy, exaggerated tone.
Sven doesn’t seem to mind, and the voice overs are surprisingly accurate. Not only does this act as a quirk, but as a way for Kristoff to guide his actions with a moral compass, as he uses Sven’s selflessness to convince him to do the right thing, should he feel reluctant.

About I am The Frog in the Fjord: This blog is about all these new realities foreigners like me face when trying to adapt to a new culture, language, country and most of all to new people.
